Now Google Chat in Gmail Lets You Make Instant 1:1 Video, Audio Calls on Android, iOS Devices

Google sampled 1:1 meet calls back in September. With a striking resemblance to Hangouts, this feature would work without using the URL. This feature is set to release in the latest version in Gmail’s Google Chat.

People having Google accounts as well as, who would be operating G Suite Basic, Google Workspace and the likes would be able to benefit from this feature. However, for the same, both the receiver and the caller would have to have the latest versions of Gmail to use the calling feature.

Worthy to observe is that this calling feature is a part of the change Google is making to Google Chats from Hangouts. The feature was first considered for only users of Google Workspace but naturally came down to the other users too- since Hangouts would be disabled officially by Google.

The feature of Chat can be enabled on the settings menu by going to General> Chats and switching “Show the chat” on the Gmail app.
